Coronavirus (COVID-19)

We have put lots of new measures in place to ensure you can have a safe and enjoyable holiday. Furthermore, you can book without worrying about what may happen in the event of further restrictions; Please refer to our Terms & Conditions page. We will continue to update this page with more information as and when needed, but in the meantime we would like to thank you for your understanding and support during this difficult period.

Safety Measures

Looking after the health and safety of our guests has always been paramount. The Old Lifeboat House is cleaned by ourselves, the owners, to a high standard, however right now any ‘normal’ cleaning procedures will simply not be enough. We have had a thorough review and risk assessment of our usual procedures to ensure we are all as safe as possible and to give you peace of mind when you take your well-earned holiday.

These new procedures, plus lots more, include:

  • Allowing additional time for cleaning to take place, plus to air the property and 'let the dust settle' between guests. This does mean that we need to ask our guests to check in after 6pm, and check out earlier by 9am promptly, but we hope you understand that it is for the safety of you, and ourselves. We regret that we are unable to offer you an earlier check in or later departure for the time being.

  • Not offering a meet and greet for the time being, however we will provide you with all the information you may need about the property and call you on the evening of your arrival to check that you are settled in and happy. We live locally and are always available if you have any questions or concerns.

  • Wearing the appropriate PPE for cleaning the property and using it appropriately.

  • Removing high-risk/high-touch items, such as board games, books, some soft furnishings and slimming down kitchen items (though we do offer a list of kitchen extras available should we have a 'cook' to stay).

  • Employing a week-long, colour-coded, rotate & quarantine system for many items, such as duvets & pillows, crockery, cutlery and much more.

  • Washing all linen, towels and impermeable mattress protectors for a long wash at 60º, though you are very welcome to bring your own bedding and towels. If you would prefer to bring your own, please let us know in advance so that we can store ours away.

  • Insisting, for our own safety, that when using our duvets, pillows, linen and towels, that you bag them up before you leave so that we can either wash or quarantine them safely. Plenty of large bags will be provided.

  • Employing extra hygiene measures, such as cleaning & sanitising, or steam cleaning surfaces, high contact areas, some soft furnishings and essential items.

As we’re sure you’ll be aware, new research is being conducted all of the time, and this can often prompt a change in Government guidance. We will, of course, keep up to date with the latest information and adapt our approach appropriately.

A cleaning kit will be provided for you, along with hand soap, as we encourage hand washing each time you enter or leave the property to the property. We suggest that you pack essential items such as sanitisers, bacterial wipes, toilet rolls as these items may become short in supply.

As always, The Old Lifeboat House runs on the ethos of 'please leave it as you would expect to find it', however more than ever we would appreciate you leaving the cottage clean and tidy so we can be efficient in preparing it for the next guest.

Village Life

This year you will need to be even more prepared and as self-sufficient at the property as possible. Local shops and services are going to be very busy and have limited capacity due to social distancing requirements.  In addition, local pubs and restaurants (if they are allowed to open) will have reduced capacity. All will have their own guidelines in place and encourage the use of face masks. Please ensure you are respectful of their rules and guidelines. Our advice is to spend time on the web before your holiday to plan things carefully and check directly with that business if these are crucial to their plans. The more you plan, the more enjoyable your holiday will be.

The “We’re Good To Go” industry standard mark is a self-assessment scheme that has been designed by VisitEngland in partnership with the national tourist organisations Tourism Northern Ireland, VisitScotland and Visit Wales to provide a ‘ring of confidence’ for all sectors of the tourism industry, as well as reassurance to visitors that businesses have clear processes in place and are following industry and Government COVID-19 guidance on cleanliness and social distancing. Certificate available on request.
